Denise Burt, President
Santa Clara University
Denise has working in the Higher Education profession for 17 years. She joined the beautiful Santa Clara campus in 1998 as the Manager of Student Loans Services. After her efforts in decreasing the sizeable receivables portfolio, she was recruited as the Associate Director in the Student Accounting Office and is currently the University’s Bursar. She oversees the billing, cashiering and collection operation for all the University’s tuition, housing and fees across campus. She has also recently acquired the collection of Perkins and Institutional loan funds. More fun! She has been a key player of the student Financials team since the implementation of enhancements to increase optimal customer satisfaction in all the student areas. Denise has been an active member of CCULL, CBA and NACUBO for several years and is excited to be part of the PacWest SFS team. Passions are her 18 year old spoiled daughter (2008 SCU freshman!) and martini’s! They probably go hand-in hand.

Elena Larson, President Elect

Elena Larson is the Assistant Director for the University Collections at Sacramento State (CSUS), where she has worked since 1990. Her staff of seven is responsible for collecting all debt to the campus (including Perkins and Nursing loans), invoicing non-student debt, refund eligibility and processing, and campus card marketing and vendor relationships. On a personal note- she enjoys modern décor, baking for loved ones, pursing personal fitness, and doing her part for the economy as a skilled consumer.

Suzette Calderone, Secretary
University of Pacific
Suzette began her career in higher education over 10 years ago at the University of the Pacific. She was hired as the first Associate Bursar and served as a supervisor of the Student Loans and Collections Department. During that time, Suzette was introduced to the mystical world of federal reporting and the excitement of converting to a new loan software system. Suzette quickly moved up to the Bursar position and assumed additional responsibilities in the form of the Student Accounts and Cashier’s Departments. Prior to coming to Pacific, Suzette worked in the telecommunications industry as a regional controller. She also worked in the real estate development, recruiting, and public accounting industries. But she has found that nothing compares to higher education! Suzette graduated from Cal Poly, SLO, with a BS in Business Administration. In 2008, she completed her MBA at CSF Fresno. She enjoys traveling with her husband where she can combine her love of shopping, eating fabulous food, and drinking great wine.

Becky is the Assistant Director for the Student Business Services at Chapman University in Orange, California. Becky has over eleven years of collections experience, with some of those years in higher education working in collections, Federal Perkins and Accounts Receivables. Becky enjoys learning form others and spending time with friends and family.
Diana Chow, Member at Large
San Francisco State
Diana has served the San Francisco State University community since 1982, currently as the Supervisor of Financial Services and Student Loan Collections. She started out with SFSU as a Student Loan Collections Collector; was promoted to Unit Lead, and then to Supervisor, which position she has held for the past six years. Prior to joining San Francisco State, Diana worked at Santa Rosa College teaching English as a second language. Her love of the Spanish language led her to earn both her Undergraduate Degree and a Master's Degree in Spanish; she also has earned a second Master's Degree in Gerontology with a Minor in Psychology, all earned at San Francisco State. Diana has travelled extensively with her husband, Calvin, who also serves the greater San Francisco community as a police officer. He is currently the Vice President of the International Police Association, and in that role he and Diana have the opportunity to travel the globe meeting with fellow officers; they have also had the pleasure of hosting fellow officers from around the world at their home and being able to introduce them to San Francisco. Diana also keeps herself busy with her other loves - hiking, walking and biking in the great outdoors, as well as dance.

Geri has been the Account Resolution Manager at Pepperdine University since 2005. Prior to working at the University, Geri worked at GE Financial Assurance in the Accounts Receivables department. Currently, she is responsible for overseeing the loan and student receivables portfolio’s and activities for the Federal Perkins Loans, Institutional Loans, and delinquent Tuition Accounts for the University. She provides assistance and guidance to the Account Resolution Counselors and enjoys working as a team. In addition; she also manages the Accounts Receivables for numerous departments thought-out the University.

Corky joined Coast Professional, Inc. in June of 2007 and is passionately focused and dedicated to the success of his client colleges and universities in the student loan and receivables industry.

James has enjoyed more than 24 years in the Higher Education/Collections industry. Currently employed with Reliant Capital Solutions for a short 3 years, he has prospered in the environment of an agency that specializes in campus based higher education, is a wholly owned female company and is driven by the knowledge and expertise shared and nurtured with customer relationships. For decades now James has been an active member of CCULLA/PacWest SFS, COHEAO, NYSOBBA, Massachusetts Bursar Association and either a participant or speaker at PDG, EARMA, and OACUBO; as well as founder and current steering committee member of HEARO. Beach, mountain and trail running are his escapes. Four grownup children and 3 grandchildren (yikes, one is already 14 years old!) grace his life.

Laurelle, has worked in Higher Education for her entire career: She started out working in financial aid, serving at Gordon College, Boston University, and Regis College. She them moved to Sallie Mae for many years working in their loan servicing division and later with the secondary market group. After three years with CASHNet/Higher One, Inc., she recently joined ECSI and is working with schools in the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. She lives in the San Francisco bay area, and spends her free time participating in Toastmasters International, volunteering at the local animal shelter and singing in a women’s chorale.

Sandy has been working with Higher Education clients in the western U.S. for 6 years as a Customer Relationship Manager with Nelnet Business Solutions. She loves working with her clients in California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Montana, Colorado, and Texas, to name a few places she visits from her home base in the Chicago area. (What’s not to love about meeting with clients in sunny California when you are from Illinois – especially in January?)She is passionate about helping clients find solutions using tools available to them through services provided as well as bringing together the right people to address customer issues and concerns. Prior to working with Nelnet Business Solutions, Sandy held various Sales and Marketing positions in the telecommunications industry, working with large corporate clients. Outside of work, Sandy spends time with her husband and two daughters, ages 12 and 10, keeping her busy with homework and afterschool activities.
